Does anyone know how the hair and skin was colored in the Andrea.mov in the gallery?

In particuliar I'm wondering how the hair looks like one piece yet it has two color tones irregularly shaped. You can also see it on the cheek and neck where light highlights are made.

It was probably made with multiple, overlapping fill shapes. One large shape for the overall shape and color, then smaller shapes for highlights and shadows.
