Hi. Working on a little project and having my share of frustrations ( on what I'm thinking should be easy solutions....but cant figure them out).......wondering if someone can help on these 3 silly things.....
1- Is there any way to shut off onionskins for good untill I wish to use them. I'm aware of the "onionskins-clear all control on the timeline as well as being able to click on the "small blue square" on the onionskins bar under the time bar to shut them off. The problem is the number of countless times I accidently click on the onionskins bar while attempting to click and drag on the "red needle" (playhead).This of course makes the onionskin outlines appear.I know its just an extra 2 clicks to create and solve this problem.....but after it happens thousands of times.....starts driving you crazy.
2- When using the translation tool.....for example....to move an object from one side of the screen to the other....the speed that the object moves is not constant......roughly the 1st 1/4 of the distance it slowly increases speed till hitting maximum....then the last 1/4 of the distance it slows down . Is there any way to make speed from beginning to end more constant or at least make the "speed up", "slow down" transition times shorter?
3- Just seeking more of an explanation for this question since I know theres no solution. Is there any good reason why the "play" and "stop" buttons are 2 seperate buttons and play is placed to the right of stop. I'm used to using other media players where the "play" and "stop" buttons are either the same button or the stop button is placed to the right. Countless times I find myself pressing the wrong button accidentally....the set-up just seems counter-intuitive and not as easy to me.

1- i have several problems with onionskins too. sorry i can't help.

2- i think that's because you have Ease in/out as default interpolation way. go to the settings in timeline and chose smooth as default interpolation. the movement now will be constant.
you can choose the interpolation way just clicking with right button on the keyframes. several keyframes, all keyframes or just one keyframe.
here is a comparison of ease in out and smooth (right button, save as)

3- you can use space bar for play and stop. i think this don't work just when you are working with add points tool. play with the keyboard shorcuts, your life will be happier.

Thanks Selgin for reminding me about the keyboard shortcuts......since I hav'nt used any of them in a long time, I had forgotten about the spacebar option.Its definitely a better option than the start/stop buttons. Regarding the "ease in/out" or "smooth" interpolation.......I already have it set on smooth but am still experiencing the acceleration/deceleration. Perhaps the only solution is to extend the translation start/finish points well outside the neccessary length needed and just use the center portion.

Use linear interpolation and insert several keys if you want to accelerate or decelerate. Those Ease and Smooth interpolations are way off and hardly realistic or usable in most cases. You can use Crashcores scripts (see Scripting section of this forum, "Some handy scripts") to have more control over your inbetweens.
