I don't know how to make polls,so...

I've been looking over the pro and standard versions of Anime Studio,and for lack of funds will most likely go for standard,can anyone here say they've created some killer animation with the standard,which i know
depends heavily on your own personal talents,i guess what i'm asking
has anyone felt overwelmingly restricted by the standard version.

I've bought the software when it was still called Moho, for less than 100 euros. That was a lot of money for an amateur/hobbyist animator. I now have the pro version of Anime Studio (free upgrade), but I probably wouldn't buy the pro version of Anime Studio, unless I could sell some of my animation (very unlikely). Two hundred euros is just too much for me.

I think the standard version is just too limited to be of any use. Especially the lack of onion skinning is a big issue for me. Without onion skinning I can't create a walk cycle reliably. Character animation without walk cycles isn't worth while doing in my opinion.

If you just want to create some fan-art animation using existing models from Content Paradise, go for the standard version with a standard mouse. If you want to sell some of your art (use AS as a freelance animator), buy AS Pro, and a descent pressure sensitive digitizer tablet from Wacom (Graphire or Intuos series). That will cost you probably at least 350 dollars in total for AS Pro and Wacom tablet, if you shop carefully and you already own a PC or Mac.

Of course, you will need to learn how to animate somewhere else, because AS isn't very well suited for newbie animators. Pencil, paper, something to input drawings into the computer (e.g. digital camera), and a freeware animation program that inputs your scanned drawings and outputs a movie file, are probably much better for those who have never done any animation. Once you're comfortable with that, you could consider using one of the 2D character animation programs out there.

Those are my 2 cents as a relative newbie in character animation.

I use the pro version, but if you look at the examples I have created, seen this thread here, I have done nothing which cannot be done in the standard version. It's a great place to start and you can be learning and creating immediately. If you feel a desire to upgrade down the road somewhere, you can always do that.

I own Pro, since I want all the features I can get.
