Problem With Sublayers and Bone Binding Tools...

I have a question. I'm having a bit of a problem trying to get my vector layers to accept the bone binding tools.

I can add bones to them, but I can't get the vectors to move with the bones. And, whenever I want to bind them, the right buttons in the bone tool section are not accessible.

I know I'm doing something wrong, but I just can't figure it out. I can easily move the layers around in the layer window, but as soon as I want to do some bone binding, I can't seem to get the layers, not to mention the binding tools to cooperate. Do they have to be in some sort of special sublayer category beneath the bone layer in the layer window? And if so, how would I go about getting them there?

You can't bind "sub layers" to a bone.

A bone layer must be the parent of the layer to be bound.

Here is a hypethetical layer set up with 3 levels:


Top Bone Layer
--> Sub Bone Layer
------> Sub Layer


In the setup above the last sub layer can only be bound to a bone in the parent layer directly above it, the sub bone layer, not to the Top Bone Layer.

The sub bone layer, can be bound to a bone in the Top Bone Layer.

Holy cow!

Just had an idea!

You could put one bone in each "sub bone layer" to "cascade" the binding!

Just create an extra bone in each sub layer and bind it down the chain!!!

Hehe, I did that in the first character I did....
But when I realized that I loose the Inverse Kinematics I come back to a single bone layer...

Why would you lose inverse kinematics?

You move the bones on the top level only. All the bound layers as far down as you want to go still follow that bone.

but then... whats the point of adding an intermediary bone layer witha single bone, when you could just put the vector layer directly as a child to the parent bone layer? *confused*

If a bone layer holds another bone layer the IK stop at the first child layer and don't propagate up to the root layer. Also the lock bone don't work as it do in a single bone layer.
