Transparency while editing

Is it possible to see transparency in the drawing window. I have some image layers and I would like to algin them as they share some common parts. It would help if I could made one of them transparent. I tried to do so using the opacity setting of the layer. However whil drawing this opacity setting is not evaluated for some reason (only when you do a render). I tried to play with display quality and the tranparency setting but this didn't change anything. Could it be done?

You can turn on transparency in the display settings but only for vector layers. Image layers with transparency do not show in preview, only in the final render.

A trick I use is to save out pngs with transparency on the whole image. Make the layers transparent in Photoshop or whatever image editor you use. When you save the PNG this type of transparency WILL show in AS.

When everything is lined up just go back resave the images at full opacity and replace them. Reopen the AS file and the images update.

You need to set "Smooth images" in the display settings but you don't need transparency to be displayed.
