How do you save just the object...

You mean like "exporting"? Like being able to export a character or layer?

You can't.

What you can do is import one Anime Studio file into another and pick which layer you want to import. Using Import/Anime Studio object... and selecting a file to import into a new or different file, all the layers at the top level will be available to choose from.

If for instance you had several "objects" or characters on several layers in one file, you should put each character or object into one group or bone layer at the root of the layer palette. When importing choose the group layer that you want. It will appear in the layer palette above whatever layer was selected.
