The nice thing is that with a bit of practice you can always re-rig a character "on the fly". So start with the rig you are most comfortable with, and when you encounter a scene which needs a different rig, just create a new bone layer and stack the layers under it. I do that all the time.

Is that correct slowtiger?
I thought you could tweak the movements in an action after adding them to the timeline. Do you use actions or cycles for animating a walk?
But I must also ask, is the definition for offset bones applicable only to the creation and then assembly of the figure? Sometimes I have been confused thinking that offset bones (to control clothing for example) are not on top of the character for ease of control. Anyone care to define offset bones for all of us?

"Offset bones" is only for character creation, not for animation - which is easy to see because the button is available only in frame 0.

For walk cycles I use cycles. I didn't explore actions much, so far.
