No I didn't turn off King Kong, but I much prefer the 1933 stop motion version. I said it turns me off when I notice it. I mean when it's really obvious and then it just spoils it for me.

Take Monster House for example. That was so MoCap I only watched it because I was interested in it technically.

Gollum in Lord of the Rings, on the other hand was not only an amazing technical achievement, it was also brilliant artistically. The actor who did the MoCap was brilliant, the character modeling was brilliant, and the facial and tweaking animation was brilliant, textures, lighting, rendering, etc. - all brilliant. I wasn't noticing the MoCap, though I knew it was used. That's because all those people were talented and did a great job.

I remember being greatly disappointed with Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings because the rotoscoping was so bad; some of it was just polarized film with a color wash over it. That's not animation.

Mmmmm old kong, yes. Craftsmanship makes all the difference, good actors instead of aerobics instructors or nightclub dancers. It's like the differrence between and great animators and say...... well, me. :)
If you like stop motion gorilla fights 2ner, check out my mechanical version.
There's no real story but you might enjoy it and I promise there's no rotoscoping , hell I didn't even have video split. It was done on a a wind-up bolex on the kitchen table back in 93.

Great film Chucky. I did enjoy that very much. You had me actually laughing there. You're a very talented animator. The skating robot was brilliant.

Thank 2ner,and thanks Dale, I really appreciate what you say especially as a fan of old king kong and a professional stop motion animator ( that BTB scene was superbly done).
I don't mean to change the topic of mocap but has anyone seen ward 13 by my buddy Pete Cornwell, now that's a great stop motion short. Keep an eye out for it. It's been on tv a few times here in oz and was even short listed for oscars a few years back, hard to get hold of though.

back to the mocap topic I wonder if vern has any ideas -he knows AM, maybe genete might have some ideas,- unless we've lost him to Synfig.
