Textures: free or wrapped?

The recent addition of wrapping textures under bones without need to make a mask is really cool.

Anyway I've recently seen a Cartoonnetwork show that do exactly the opposite to a texture wrap. They leave the texture static when the character moves.
It produces a great and interesting effect. I love it.
Maybe that the textures used in that show are pretty good designed but IMHO the result is quite convincing.

Do you think that it is worth the head ache you get trying to keep the textures without "white spaces" under a heavy bone deformation or it is better leave the texture free and permit it "float" under the character skin or custom?

Yeah, that's why I held on the my copy of 5.5.

I think that static image texture works well for subdued patterns (like in your example). I think it all comes down it how large the image pattern needs to be. The smaller the pattern the better it works as a static texture. But something like large stripes would be a bit too obvious.
