I'm missing something. I've been at this for days now and I can't get the time line to show what I want it to when I want it to.

I'm using 6 Deput
This is what I have now:



I turn off all the "eyes" and this is how I want it to play out:









But for the life of me I can't figure out how to get images not to show until it's their turn. I move the time line then I click on the little eyes, then I click the image and a little blue dot shows up on the time line, then I go to the next image and I click the eyes so the image shows, then I click the image and a little dot shows on the time line and so on, but when I run the time line from the beginning the letters are there all the time. When I go to the top of the time line none of the letter images should show.

What step am I missing?

Ah the eyes have it...or in this case, they don't.

I have ASP6, I'll assume Debut is similar...

The eyes are only for turning on/off the visibility of what you see when you are just previewing in realtime--it has nothing to do with what renders.

To animate the visibility of layers:

1. Double click the layer in question to open the Layer properties.
2. Select, "Allow animated layer effects"
3. Toggle the "Visible" check box to change the state of visibility.
4. Done

Alternatively you could...

1. Double click the layer in question to open the Layer properties.
2. Select, "Allow animated layer effects"
3. Change the Opacity
4. Done

Using the "Visible" checkbox in the Layer Settings dialog is the correct advice. However, it's not necessary to turn on "Allow animated layer effects". For layer visibility, it's assumed that you want to animate that property - if you just wanted a layer to be off and always stay off, you could simply delete it or turn off its eyeball int he Layers panel.

So although it may not be clear from the interface, "Visible" is the one property that is always animated, regardless of the "Allow animated layer effects" setting.
