selecting shapes

If you have 50 different shapes on the same vector layer, all shapes have the same color (so it's really hard to see with you eye which is which), is it possible to select only one at the time for editing, in a simple way?
In the style window I have all shapes as number but when I select one of them it will not be selected in the main window.
edit:
sorry for that, the shapes get selected but not the points, I would like to have the same selecting behavior regarding points for the shapes as when selecting the shapes in the style window....is it possible to do that?

I'm pretty sure all you need to do is use the select points tool (I'm talking about the button with the little dotted box on it, it's like the first button out of all the drawing tool button things) and just click in the middle of your shape, the same way you would when using the select shapes tool button thing that you were using. Hope that does what you want it to do :?

P.S. I'm no expert but I think 50 indentically-coloured shapes on one vector layer might be asking for trouble

The thing is that some of the shapes are on top of others and when they are, the point select tool will not work. I could do like this:
1. select shape in styles window
2. raise the shape to top, with raise shape tool
3. select all points by clicking in the middle of the shape with select points tool, but I would like it to be a more easy task to do, and maybe there is an more easy way to do it but I don't know if and how. :(

If you can see the construction curves (assuming the lines are not exactly the same for each shape), just click on any line segment (using the Select Points tool) to select the entire curve it is part of.

:D Yes that did the trick, I'm able to click on any line segment, even if it belongs to a shape under an other shape, and all the points in that shape will be selected....great!
thank myles for letting me know!

maybe it would be a nice feature request to be able to select all points belonging to the selected shape in the styles window, so when the shape is allready selected there would be a button to click and...voila, the points would be selected?

You can create point groups of your shapes, select all point in the shape, give it a name in the blank textfield and hit create. next time you want to select the shape use the select point tool and just select the shape from the dropdown list.
