3D scene/space problem

Hi,

I have done the 3D scenes tutorial fine, but once I have started my own, it doesn't work so well.

I'm trying to place an image (black in the screenshots) on a flat plane, but don't know when I have got it right, because when I "orbit", it looks different from each angle, mostly never sitting on the plane.

I want it (black image) to sit on the plane (orange) as shown in image1 (although I'm not sure its quite right there either), but from the view in image 2. The following images where taken from different angles using the "orbit" tool.

Everything changes depending on your zoom, or angle. How do I deal with it?

My understanding is that regardless of your perspective in 3D, your Moho objects will be sorted in Z-depth based on their layer position.

Is your flat plane over the black one in your layers menu?

Yeah, by the looks of the pictures the orange thing layer is positioned higher than the black thing layer.

Positioning things in 3D space can be quite tricky - it often helps to use the "move points" tool and check that the co-ordinates are correct. (For instance, if youwant a wall to meet the floor properly, check that the bottom points on the wall have the same Y value as the points on the floor.)

No, I made sure of that.

They are set to 3 and 6. So setting them both to either number leaves them miles apart (further than in the start). I had set a custom origin point for the black image because want to pivot it along the bottom.
But fiddling with th numbers doesn't help, because I can't tell when they meet.

You may want to break your orange "walkway" rectangle into 2 pieces and 2 layers - one in front of and one behind the image layer. That way depth sorting by layer origin can be more logical.

Thanks myles, that worked.

I'm still confused why the background which is clearly far behind, overlays the orange plane/walkway when in "orbit". Well, at least I'm not using that angle (yet).

Okay, a bit to try. In the Project Settings, check "Sort layers by depth" and "Sort by true distance". That might clear it up. Then if you are careful about where the layer origins are, you should be okay.

Thanks 7feet, I have already checked those.
The 3d space is still buggy sometimes, with objects having different positions from different camera angles, causing overlap and blocking in some cases.

One strange thing, is sometimes moving objects in 3d space. At one point they dissapear. Nothing is blocking them, but you can only see their object outline. Can't figure out why. Sometimes it happens when you zoom a certain distance on an object. But that shouldn't happen, should it?
