GCHarb,
Speaking for myself, I would absolutely be interested in professional-grade tutorials and would happily pay for them.

To Amigaman, don't feel guilty at all about charging for a quality tutorial. Even though there are a lot of good free tutorials out there, if you offer something they don't, and people want the information bad enough, you have every right to charge for it.

But, as Vern pointed out, there are some downsides to that, too. As a side-note, I recently joined Heyverns site and he has some awesome tutorials on there. The only problem is some of the videos aren't working and I can't get to the incredible info no doubt contained therein =) If I could learn to do the stuff he does with bones on his "demo reel" on Youtube, it's a no-brainer. I'd pay for it.

As I'm new to the "Drama," could someone summarize what is so "bad" about AS7 as to warrant a withdrawal from the forums as a protest?

I just bought AS 7 Pro, and as a "lay person," not an animation professional, I'm thrilled to heck with the application, although it has a few somewhat primitive bells and whistles, and the odd bug here and there.

It still beats other alternatives (like Flash), hands down for what it can accomplish in the right hands.

As for paying for advanced tuts, I'm on the fence. I'm picky as all get out regarding tuts, and would only pay for tuts that I thought truly "ground breaking" in terms of teaching me how to do something "out of the ordinary," or in a truly time and energy saving manner. But I'm the "self-taught, experiment and refine" type, myself, so I don't think I speak for a lot of users.

Hey Mozbo,
I'm with you in that I don't really understand what the protest is all about. As I understand it, one user in particular (and probably others) was upset because the new AS introduced some new 3D features, and the concern is that future versions will have to spend significant time refining and developing those tools at the expense of the 2D tools, which is primarily what the program is supposed to be. So some are concerned the development will start moving away from what this programs original intent was.

Prescient Complaining???

Post by Mozbo »

LOLOL!
I know users can get their knickers in a gather over minor issues, but worrying about future release improvements as an excuse to not utilize current versions is a new one for me!

That argument is akin to saying I won't buy a new car with GPS, because the manufacturer might devote too much attention to possible satellite communications like voice-activated interior controls in future models...lolol!

ANY tool is a GOOD tool in my book. You don't HAVE to use them, but if you want them or need them, it's nice to have them...

Thanks for the fill-in.

Yah and that was something other users brought up. If you don't like the current version, use an older version. If you think you won't want future versions then stick with the current one.

However, the other thing to consider, which is part of what is annoying some people, is that they need to fix current bugs and issues and focus on user requested improvements first and foremost, THEN look at improving the 3D tools. But the original user who is protesting believes that a majority of time will have to be spent on the 3D tools and the rest of the program won't get fixed up and fine-tuned. We shall see, I guess. I'm really not worried about it.
