The community here at the Lost Marble Forum

Post by frozentoons »

When I made my very first post here (I think my username was moviewiz or somethin) Everyone was very nice and patient. And because of all you guys I was able to produce good quality animations.
Now the community here is awesome. No other word to describe it. I visited the TB forums and they are nothin compared to the AS forum. I also visited many other forums including some for web design, Newgrounds, and YouTube. But none of the forums had a community like this. Why? Cause the other forum users don't care about the other threads but only their own. Only a handful of users are actually replying. And they are usually the Mods. But here at the AS Forum everyone from noobs to pros :P tries to help each other and that's what makes this forum great.

But the reason I'm posting this is for one reason, everything I just said.
Is starting to fall apart.
Users are starting to leave the forum, spam is just pouring out like a waterfall, users are starting to get mad for no reason. Like the post Infocentral made, he was telling the forum about a new software. And he was teasing us, telling us to guess the name of the software. Now, when I read that thread I was suprised of how much negativity that thread received. Fortuantly selgin eased out the tension (1 gold star for selgin :P) But seriously? The forum is starting to become more negative year by year. Heck, even by month by month! If we keep this up I guarantee you that the forum will be dead sooner or later. So let's stop being so negative. I know making this post is being negative but I hope this will be the last.

Not to be negative, but "slegin" is spelled "selgin". I think he's too polite to correct you.

The forum runs in cycles. It's pretty good now....there are new faces sharing some exciting work, and have you noticed what Parker is doing? The man's on fire!

Anyway, I agree with ya, we could use more levity (madrobot?). :)

I think the problem is no one wants to be a Monitorator on any forum. It can be a full time job.

The other thing is that animation is not only 2d or done just by AS. Right now I switching to 3D for awhile so I wont be in the forums that much myself.

The last thing is that AS 5.6 was bullet proof. AS 7 more bugs than an abandon house. If I was a pro, needing this program for work I would be very pissed and dumping it quickly. There is something to be said when users want to role back to previous versions to render, because the current version is not working right.

Well i dont have too much experience with other forums but i do think that the forum is getting a little bit slow.
That is one of the reasons why i have been sharing my works a lot lately and also im tired that people think that anime studio is bad for its drawing tools or that is made for anime just for the name when you can make anything with it.
I just want to try to inspire others with my humble knowledge and skills.

Dont worry ill be publishing more of my works soon.
I have 3 BIG things coming for you all guys.

-The first one is coming really soon, probably in 2 or 3 days.
Its about the biggest and at the same time the cheapest Anime Studio videotutorial ever that will teach you to do everything.
I think its so big that this not only apply to AS but to any software so i think its the biggest and cheapest videotutorial ever in general.

-The second one is something that i have always been doing specially lately, pushing the software to its limits.
Its something that people think that can be done exclusively in photoshop but im going to prove that they are wrong.
First i made some nice BGs when people thought that may be impossible to make them in AS, then i made comic book characters and some changed their minds again.
Im going to take things even farther and specially going to shut up a lot of flash fanboys and i will rub it in their faces.
Sorry if this last description sounded arrogant, im not 8).

-The last one is something no nesesary huge but its something that i think i hasnt been done in AS yet and will be very interactive.
Im working with another user of the forum on it.

Forums Ebb and Flow

Post by Mozbo »

Hi!
I've moderated forums, started forums, and joined forums for the last 10 years or so, and if I've learned nothing else, it's that forums ebb and flow.

Things slow down starting in the Spring, almost die from neglect during the summer, and then start to pick up around Thanksgiving.

Spam is a constant headache, and moderators can be very hard to come by at times...

I'm new to AS, but LOVE the app, glitches, snags, and all. It STILL is head and shoulders above the other apps I was considering, and the community here is, for the most part, helpful, friendly, and most of all *generally* encouraging. That REALLY helps when you're new and trying to learn how to use the application and make something worth having others look at.

Don't worry about the small things. The major benefits of this forum and AS will persevere. The small things will fall by the wayside.

You can add me to that list. I've had it with all the trouble makers here just waiting for someone to post something so they can start calling them names and all kinds of unfounded allegations of intent etc. Its just gotten ridiculous and appears well tolerated by the current community. Time to move on...

Oh puhleez! The "I'm leaving!" type of post does nothing to help the situation. Go or stay, but don't be a drama-queen by announcing your departure...

This forum is VERY helpful and friendly, it's just not very silly-minded. Goofy "guess what!" threads are not well accepted, nor encouraged on any forum. If you have something to share, do it without playing games. That is why that thread was flamed so badly. By and large the members here seem to be intelligent and mature folk. Silly game playing about a software application is counterproductive to clear communications. Nothing unfounded about that.

As the old saying goes, "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem..." Being interactive here isn't hard, and there are a LOT of really nice and helpful members, and a lot of interesting topics and animations being posted all the time. If it doesn't meet your particular expectations, you always have the option not to be here. Just spare us the "I'm out of here" announcements.

We've been known to get silly once in a while, animators need to have a good sense of humor!

PS I think the spam has been taken care of, thank you spam busters!

It probably comes as no surprise that even the best of intentions get misconstrued on posts due to the absence of non-verbal cues and inflections. You could try to learn from this experience and try a different approach next time. Communication is as much a skill to be practiced as drawing or animating.

Those are funny though, especially when they pop back up later, usually under a different name but same old trolling! :D

You've got a point there! They're pathetic, but funny in that light.

It's just the sad perception that anyone really cares if they leave so much that they have to make a public "proclamation..."
