Pro 7 ~ Motion Graph question.

Post by Mozbo »

Hi all!
Okay, color me blonde or blind, but I cannot for the life of me find the checkbox to "Enable Graph Mode" in the Motion Graph Tab of the timeline...

Would someone please help me out and tell me where it is located on the workspace (a screen capture would be heaven, but telling me what it is next to should help)???

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it...Once again POOR manual instructions.
To turn on the Motion Graph "Enable Graph Mode," you select a bone in your animation. Then when you go to the Motion graph, you will see that one bone's motion. You can only see one channel at a time in graph mode, evidently...

Hard enough to learn the application, it sure doesn't help when the manual is incorrect...gah!

Since version 6, motion graph is on a tab on timeline. On earlier versions you had to activate it on that mysterious "enable graph mode" checkbox.
The manual has some stuff which needs to be actualized. Maybe we could open a thread to compile that errors and send them to Smith Micro. Personally, I almost never read the manual (I'm such a veteran here ) so it would be good to have new guys helping here.

Also you will have to double click on the channel you want to edit, then all the keys show up.
The graph is pretty good I think, be great if it had separate keys for xyz though.

For those of us totally new to animation and AS, reading the User Manual, start to end, AND doing all the tutorials is truly the best way to learn about the program.

But yes, there are some sections that weren't tested after writing, some parts that were mis-written, and some parts totally lacking in information...(The section on Embedded Scripts is totally missing! I wrote SM about this, and they suggested when I get to that part to ask HERE in the forums for help ~ So that will be a future thread, trust!)

The Onionskins feature is very poorly dealt with, and covered in just a few paragraphs. I've found a couple of YouTube videos that help a bit more, but I'm still struggling trying to grasp how they work, and when you would choose to use them...The Styles feature is likewise incomplete and somewhat lacking.

I've been pasting "sticky notes" on my manual as I read through it, correcting mistakes and adding information as I find it or figure it out myself. By and large, the manual isn't too bad, but halfway through, I have about 7-8 errors/omissions I could report. It WOULD be nice to have a thread just for the manual.

If you can create a sub-forum under Bugs and Feature requests, I will pull my manual notes and submit what I have.

Thanks, chucky. The double click instruction did the trick! I would click once to get to editing mode, and then click again, and go back to regular mode. Too slow. When I double clicked, the dots appeared on the graph. Yay!

I can't create a new section, but I can create a sticky thread somewhere. I'll do now. Wait a minute

Ok, I have just created a new thread on Feature Request discussions
Issues with the manual? Report here

Please, Mozbo, write your observations there. Thank you.
