Hi!

I´m trying to rigg bones on a character.
After I drew each body part in photoshop i saved the each individually in PNG and imported them into anime studio.
Now, am i supposed to have all the body parts in one bone-layer or a bone-layer for each body part? When I put all body arts in one bone-layer everything gets distorted when i manipulate the bones, but if I have one bone-layer for each part I can't connect the body parts to each other.
What am I doing wrong?
I've tried finding tutorials online, but they all just show how to rigg a one-layer character.

Please help!

Put all the .pngs images into one bone layer. Next, Bind each layer to the bone it needs.

Page 65 in the manual; the section about bone binding.

The keyword would be "layer binding" if you don't want your images being warped.

Can I tag along on this thread?

It's been a while since I've used ASP, so I keep forgetting how the bone system works...

Like in the original post, I saved out my character as a bunch of individual PNG files. Then I loaded them into separate layers in Anime Studio Pro 7, and then made a bone layer for each body part.

Then I nested them according to the heirarchy... so the hand layer is inside the arm layer, and the arm and leg layers are all inside the 'torso' layer....

The character actually animates okay, but the problem I have is that I can only see the bones for the body part layer that's currently selected. So I have to keep going through to select the 'leg' layer before I can see the leg bones, then click on the arm layer to manipulate the arm...

Isn't there some way to just click on the main overall 'character' folder, and then be able to manipulate all the bones that are 'downstream' from the topmost level?

I hope that's clear enough...

Thanks for any help you can offer. Someday I'm really gonna get the hang of this program, coz I suspect it's a very powerful beast.

Ah, another one ... common mistake.

Usually you will have only one bone layer which holds several body parts. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to be abe to create lots of bones in one layer, right?

Most times one bone layer per character is good enough. In more sophisticated rigs, like I sometimes do, there would be one bone layer for the overall body, then inside another bone layer for legs, one separate bone layer for each arm, and one for the head. Bone, Group, and Switch layers are bound to bones via layer binding.

Wonderful -- thanks very much for clearing that up.

I'm still a little sketchy on how the grouping/binding thing works but I'll work through more tutorials and figure it out eventually.

In the meantime, I'll stick with the 1-bone layer method! Thanks a bunch.
