Mouth Shapes?

Post by Leejohn »

Hi, I was wondering if anybody had a clear diagram or manual describing the mouth shapes. I was also wondering how many different mouth shapes were necessary for the full range of speech. Thanks.

Two, or 26, or any other number, depending on your style.

Google "mouth shapes".

Mouth shapes for animation are called Phonemes.

This is a good book for reference.

"Thanks to you" is abbreviated to "Thanks"

Your post is an abbreviation where the apostrophe replaces parts of a word;
"Thank Jeebers" -> "Thank's", for example

(No need to thank me)

On the subject of Phonemes, I just created my first mouth set using the ten phonemes that Papagayo recognizes (the Preston Blair set). The guide says that the layer labeled ETC will be used for the letter T and for pauses. During my first test I see that the L phoneme is being used for the T sound and it looks silly. Is there any way to adjust this or even to use extended phonemes without having to manually switch at individual frames?

Hey John, do you have the etc phoneme named with upper case? Both the etc and rest should be lower case because that's how papagayo's dat file shows them and it won't switch right in AS leaving the last phoneme active instead of switching.
