Hey guys I know there is a way to do this but my brain is just not playing ball - I can't put it together in my head, maybe you can help.
I am doing a switch layer head turn. The eyelid is in its own switch layer which I can get to open and closed interpolated during the head turn. What I am having a hard time figuring out is how to make him blink while turning his head since any switch takes all the way to the keyframe to close/open the eye.
I want him to blink midmotion - i.e. I want to be able to set keyframes for the eyeblink between the keyframes for the head turn. I could set keyframes for the blink seperately but the eyelid would be out of position on the head since the head would already be turning.
Arrrrggghhh! I'm freaking out. Why can't I null this out?
Is there a more intelligent chap here who has already figured this out or am I just asking too much of ASP?

Genete's solution.
Update: I found this viewtopic.php?t=8678&highlight=blinking+headturn
The answer provided by Genete 3rd post down. But is there no way that this can be done using switch layers? My bone rig is going to be complex enough, I really wanted to try and solve this before the rigging.
Any alternatives that do not involve bones?

That's correct. For this sort of effect, you should follow funks recommendation in your other thread and use actions. You can create separate actions for head positions and eye blinks, then blend or insert them as needed.Honacloi wrote:I want him to blink midmotion - i.e. I want to be able to set keyframes for the eyeblink between the keyframes for the head turn. What I do is make a blink on one side, then flip the layer with the blink in it on the other side, as I did for my Homer character!
What I did is I animated the whole blinking, dialogue on one side, then flipped the layer at the right time, then added some layer and point animation on the passing position.
This way all the animation was relayed on the head turn.
This was when I started with ASP, my way of animating evolved quite a bit since, but it might give you an idea!

Hm. I'm afraid I only have up to ASP7 (although I mostly still use 6), these files must be ASP8. But thanks anyway.Egyptianboy wrote:hi .. check out these simple files http://www.mediafire.com/?skaot7c3yv503g2

In fact thanks to everybody to offered advice on this, there were a lot of great ways that I will catalogue for later. In this instance I have decided on another switch layer which I've called '3/4 blink' which emulates the position of the eyelids as they appear half way through the head turn.
