Smeagol WIP

Post by jonbo »

Here's a character I've been working on. I think he's missing something but I can't put my finger on it. What do you think?

I would turn is hands, and make him more fluid - i.e. unlock his head & shoulders a little - he's too robotic.

oh ok we're talking about the animation too..

in that case, I agree.. turn the hands, move the loincloth a little and loosen the shoulder.

cool

no I wasn't talking about the animation, I meant the character himself. I didn't want to have him static. Nipples? I suppose so.

His feet should be bigger and longer, the head is too big for my taste and the neck should be longer as well, also, I would add longer stands of hair falling at least to the shoulders.

Thx Gilles, I think you're right about the head. Reducing it will make the neck look longer. I thought the feet were too big. I'll try going bigger with them and add some longer hair strand too.

Much better, don't forget that Smeagol used to be a river Hobbit, and that they tend to have large feet!

Heu, is it just me, or did I just sounded very nerdy! :)

That makes two of us cause that's why I made the feet flatter than my hobbit character.

One last suggestion, I would make his, heu, pants, cant remember the right name, longer and I would put a dynamic bone in there, to add secondary animation.

I tried that, didn't like how it looked. I did a little point animation on it instead. I'll work on it some more. Thanks for the suggestions. :)

I think yours was too short to do good with dynamic bone, maybe if a bit longer like I shown in the picture! :)

[edit]
Dynamic bones could be used for the hair strains as well.

I do have bone dynamics on the hair but the settings are low ( I didn't want the hair flying around too much) I'll try the loinclothe a little longer and bone dynamics again.

What I do to make things smoother with bone dynamic is that I start with a high dampening setting at the top of the chain then I lower it by double as I go down.

This way you get nice overlapping on the bone dynamics, makes it more natural to me.

A file I just made to illustrate what I mean!
