Good full tutorial???

Post by kingace »

Hi, as I said earlier, I'm a major newbie. I'd like to make a full cartoon, but I'm not sure where to start.

I've followed the tutorials, but I can't seem to do character construction, and I saw the walk tutorial.

Are there any full tutorials to make a (Somewhat) full-fledged cartoon - like make a character, a background, and have the character walk around? From Scratch?

If not is there any information on making a character from scratch?

TIA

Hello KingAce,

No extra tutorials that I know of.

Perhaps start by trying variations on the existing tutorials?

For example, go back to Tutorial 1.4, but instead of importing and adding bones to the pre-built character, add a row of two or three bones to the tree you built in Tutorial 1.3, to make it wave in the wind.

Do Tutorial 1.4 again, add bones to the tree again, but this time including a bone for each branch, and test waving the branches separately as well as the trunk (if you like, go back to Tutorial 1.3 but make it a very simple character with arms instead of a tree with branches - don't worry about animating fine detail like fingers at this stage).

Next step - go back to Tutorial 1.3, but don't draw the tree, draw pieces of a character spread apart similar to about 1/4 of the way through Tutorial 3.4 - they can be simplified a lot more than the example in Tutorial 3.4, but give them enough shape to recognise the pieces. Then go and do Tutorial 3.4 again with your own new character pieces.

By then you should be getting a handle on building and rigging a simple character of your own.

Feel free to come back at any time and ask if any specific step in the process is confusing you. If you have somewhere to upload (there are a number of free hosting sites worth investigating if you don't already have your own site), posting specific problem files along with a question can help get a more specific or relevant answer.

Good luck, and have fun!

Regards, Myles.

I don't think a tutorial can tell you how to make a character and backgorund etc seeing that it's meant to be something you've created. Try good ol' pen (or pencil) to paper and import them into MoHo to trace, thats where i always start.
