3d textures

Post by superonIII »

no doubt i'm showing my lack of stripes again here, perhaps someone knows and can help with this.

i can't get the textures looking right so have an example here.
firstly the original render, then secondly from anime studio pro 8 (firstly was created with art of illusion incase anyone needs to know, maybe that's where the problem is but for know i'm holding back on learning how to do "uv mapping" on blender as it was enough of a headache getting around the aoi way... anyway)

as yet i'm not particularly concerned about the perspective or lighting though any lighting tips might be nice;)

i'm sure there's a simple solution apologies if i've missed it, and thanks if you help or try to:)

Hi Superon,

I will try to help :)
I create most of my 3d-objects for AS in Art of Illusion and UV-mapping is a must. Maybe one export-option was not suitable.... Please try these:

Make sure "Subdivide Smooth Meshes" is not checked! And please use export to Wavefront (obj) not to Wavefront (obj) to Polymesh - this often does not work properly.

Hope it will work now

coolbeans, thanks for knowing and sharing, it was the subdivide smooth meshes option not being checked that i didn't try, though that's now making me wonder if you can have smooth interpolation or texture mapping but not both? surely i'm missing something again apart from my faculties though i'm not sure i'll need them both anyway it would be nice to be capable.

thanks again, lovely to have a problem solved even if it does create another, and with the bonus of it not being particularly anime studio too:)
..editing that i've got it now, i think i was thinking backwards again, subdivide smooth meshes if it's a smooth mesh;)

Hi Superon,
...it depends on the >Maximal Surface Error< how smooth your mesh shows up in AS. But be careful with lower values - the size of the mesh can become extremely huge. I don't think AS can handle smooth interpolation like AoI does - but I'm not sure.
