What are the gotchas drawing in AS? Cant fill with color?

I draw some strokes and a lot of the time even though they are closed shapes the fill tool will not work?

Can anybody tell me why this would be?

The paint bucket works only on relatively simple shapes. For complex shapes, use the create shape tool.

Thanks for that. Was holding me back never knowing if I would be able to colour an object.
