Anchor my feet? Please tell me I can do that!

Post by DubiousDrewski »

I'm working on a new animation. I'm practising a robot-pants walk cycle.

You see those feet? Look at when they're on the ground; They squirm! Currently, I have to place a keyframe EVERY frame that my feet touch the ground, and it's not that effective considering how much effort it costs me. There's got to be a better way! ... Is there?

In 3D Studio Max, I could anchor the feet of my bipeds so that I could have still feet. Is there something like that here?

Sorry if I don't make sense, I've been drinking. Any help would be nice.

Search the forum and manual for "bone lock". Also this post by selgin might be of help: Amazing hidden feature: Flexible bone locking

There are a couple scripts from capricorn33 and ponysmasher that address this.

ponysmasher: Absolute Bone Locking

capricorn33: WIP - "FKIK manipulate bones" tool.

GCharb application of capricorn's script: FKIK script explained

Btw, it's not uncommon to have keyframes on every frame. Not saying you have to, but I find that it's the most direct way to get the result you want.

Did you set the line width using the width tool or the style palette? You can't set line width to zero with the style palette.

...

Nice looking art. Hope to see more. If you have any other questions feel free to post.
