Do I need Poser and/or DAZ 3D?

Post by Dadoo »

I'm wanting to import some 3D characters into AS8. I realize they need to be OBJ files. But do I need Poser or DAZ to make the characters into OBJ files so they can import? Or can I just purchase a model on the Smith Micro site and import it into AS8? I'm a little lost on this one....sorta a newb in the 3D side of AS8.

Any .obj file can be imported...
For free models you might want to try blendswap.com. Those objects are saved as .blend files. You can use Blender (free online) to easily convert them to .obj files.

Results subject to AS limitations.

It should probably be noted here that importing OBJ files (at least for me) were not able to have their Texture File re-applied to them. If you can, I was never able to figure out how to do this. I use a free software called Sculptris to generate all my OBJ files. Shame that they can't have the texture files applied to them once imported into Anime Studio.

If this is incorrect, please do correct me with information on how to import and apply the texture file to the OBJ objects.

Hi Jax,
do you use UV texture painting for texturing your objects in Sculptris? What kind of files does Sculpris export related to your object? Normally you need 3 files - an obj-file, a mtl-file and an image-file (jpg, png or whatever) to import a textured 3D object into AS. Sorry my English isn't that good.
