why?

Post by tony2sugars »

As a newbie there are many things that i don't understand which i would like to, so i hope those
with knowledge and hopefully the ability to teach, even when the questions seem a bit stupid
will do so in a simple manner.

I'll start off with this first question, hope you understand...

i have watched the video tutorials many times over but dont get why...

you have to drag one layer into another? e.g bone layer into another layer?

why can't you just draw a character and put bones into him then add mouth and then audio to it all on same page?

Hope that question is not too confusing!

Steve Jobs did it again
Don't worry, it's already cleaned.

Because this is not how this program works.
You draw your character in vector layer(s), and place these inside a bone layer. This process can be repeated nearly endlessly, so complex characters may have lots of "nested layers". The advantage is that anything you do on a top layer affects all inside it, and anything which is on the same level as a bone or group layer is not affected by it.

Putting stuff into layers (=folders) is a simple way to tell the program how parts are related. In other animation software you have to work in a similar way.

Thanx slowtiger,

so how come the character goes into the bone layer, surely the bones (movements) should be inside
the character?

Thats how simpleminded i am!

Imagine a setup like this:

Code: Select all

- bone layer (holds skeleton of body & legs)
- - switch layer
- - - several vector layers (hold different views of head)
- - bone layer (holds right arm)
- - - vector layer (arm)
- - bone layer (holds left arm)
- - - vector layer (arm)
- - vector layer (body)
- - vector layer (legs)
This is a quite common setup with nested layers.

Now understand this: the bone layer holds the skeleton. And to each bone you can attach several pieces of flesh, means: artwork of body parts, clothing, props. It doesn't make sense the other way round. One bone can control several pieces, but no piece can be controlled by more than one bone.

Think I can just about comprehend that! Will have to put it into action and see how I get on.
It's a pity mark banner not doing video tutorials for AS9. I know he done one for AS5 pro, which i have seen the few free video's so i might invest and buy, then that might give me
a good grounding, what is your opinion slowtiger?
