Making Game Sprites
Partly inspired by this thread, I made these game sprites in ASP. This is also the first rig where I used smart bones instead of patches or the mandcon set up for the joints. I really like that now all my keyframes are in top-level bone layer and I can view them all at once on the timeline (except for the hand switches of course).
The thick outline is set in the File->Project Setting->Render Style->Layer Style->Heavy Outline.
The small bit of head turn uses selgin's head turn technique. Works great with smart bones.

Snowbuny is always so cute!
Why all have this hype about creating games? Already tired about plain animation?

That works well. Nice walk and run and plenty of attention to detail

Thanks, imago and amigaman.
Oh, not at all. It's just another market for animation I'm exploring. The same animation principles apply, although there are a lot constraints to deal with.Imago wrote:Why all have this hype about creating games? Already tired about plain animation?

Thanks, jessica!
So the results are in and I placed fifth out of seven entries. Here's the judge's comment:
In any case, another great opportunity to get feedback on your work.

Heh, I totally agree with this.ZODIAC ATTACK/ZOE ZODIAC
By neeters_guy
SUMMARY: The best-looking game of the bunch, but woefully incomplete. I think that neeters_guy would serve as a fantastic team-mate for a solid coding developer who needs an artist to bring their creations to life. This author has the chops to make an eye-catching title, so put the word out there and share your talents!
STRONG POINT: The artwork is adorable. Even the bad guys are cute.
WEAK POINT: The game is unfinished and more of a showcase of artistic talent at this point.
Final Score: 51.4

nice animation .... i love it

Re: Making Game Sprites
I couldn't get the game to load, but I'd put any money it's my shoddy internet connection. The animation and game still really look incredible!

Here's a windows executable that might work better for you: https://www.box.com/s/xs29zi3zhwtcbd9aligi
I'll see if I can compile a mac version as well.
Thanks, amiramostafa, your work is terrific.

Thank you and yes, that did the trick. I stink at using the keyboard to play video games but this was still fun and the characters were really well done. Fortunately the gameplay was easy enough for me to actually win. I really liked this!
