The Snowman.

Post by hammerjammer »

Hello All. Let me know what you think about my snowman cartoon. Its a little twisted maybe, but I figured I better post this one since I started working on a follow up to this one. I'm still learning the software and would welcome any thoughts. Thanks for watching.

Ha ha. It was good and funny. I like it.

My only criticism is that he snowman should have kept his innocence by not swearing, that would have made his death more impactful.

Thanks. Ya, I always second guessed the language I used at the time, but having been still trying to learn how to animate while I was doing it. I found it impossible to go back and change anything. I've learned quit a bit and would like to think I have gotten much better since I made this. At this point it is what it is.
Although I have been planning a follow up to "the snowman". This time I'm trying to have a plan.

I liked it too!

I may be being a little too critical here but the tree movement in the background was odd and jerky. Should have been maybe more loose and flowing. It seemed the trees were moving against the direction of the wind, noted by the angle of the falling snow.

Also, consider coloring the lines rather than just black lines, at least on the background so it doesn't distract as much from the foreground characters.

I could do without the language beyond, "What the hell..." but that is my own preference.

Overall it was a fun bit and a great effort - I look forward to seeing more!

Hi Kadoogan
Thank you. Good observation, I never noticed the snow didn't match wind direction. The snow is a particle(I'm sure you knew that) that is built into AS pro 9 in the scripts menu. I never change anything about it. Just threw it in there. After all it is winter in the scene. Good catch
As for the trees movements and the black lines. I'm going to chalk that one up to my style or lack of it and my ROOKIE status at the time it was made. "The Snowman" was my first real attempt at a completed cartoon. Wasn't even scripted. Just made it up as I went. This wont be the last one I just make up as I go, I'm sure. Still had fun making it though.

Thanks for response.
