HSV modifier images

Post by Explodey »

I'm in the process of reading through the ASD8 User's Manual, and I'm trying to understand what it says about HSV modifier images. On page 215 it says "The best way to try it out is to use one of the HSV modifier images included with Anime Studio." Well, I looked through all the folders in the ASD folder, and I couldn't find anything that says HSV modifier images. Where do I find these modifier images? Is it possible that they didn't get installed because I didn't select the right checkbox during the installation process?

I am using Anime Studio Debut 8 on a Mac, OS X 10.6. Thanks for your help.

You should first check if this option is available in Debut - create a new layer, open Layer tab, and check "Use HSV modifier image" (if it's not there, you don't have it). This will open a file requester, and you can use any image file. You can easily create your own images for that purposes, as the manual says they should be close to 50% grey.

Example: apply something like this: http://ftextures.com/textures/tile-bump-map.jpg to a shape with full colour. The result will only show up in Render! (and it's amazing)

It is an image which controls the Hue Saturation Value(brightness) of a layer it is applied to. Think of it as a texture which changes colours drastically. A value of neutral 50% grey means "no change", anything else means "change". I've never tried this before, looks like it can replace my way of image/mask/blend mode in some cases.

Thanks for your help everyone. My version of ASD definitely has the option to use HSV images. I'm just wondering why the user's manual would say that it comes with these images, when in fact, it doesn't. Makes me wonder if anything else in the manual is wrong.

You're the first one to even ask about this in all the years I've been on this forum.

Remind me why we need 2 fora...

There's links from one forum to the other all the time, such bullshit, the community isn't big enough for that. We just end up with a weaker community and more lost information.

Hi Lukas. this is what the other forum says about why it's needed: http://www.kelleytown.com/forum/animato ... OPIC_ID=42 ... and aren't you already registered over there, so all you have to do is log in?

Yeah, I can login. But registering there was actually a hassle. Besides, the justifications given for splitting the community up sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me.

The threads you linked are just talk about HSV modifier images, nothing so controversial it couldn't be discussed here.

I've always noticed the developers on this forum are very open to critique and user feedback.
