Re: Add tool paint bucket how
on windows it's the alt key. (draw the path, select the paint bucket, make sure you have "stroke" (or "both") selected, hold down alt when you click on the path)

Re: Add tool paint bucket how
you're welcome.
before I continue, I need to point out the difference between "path" and "shape". If you're clear on this, then skip to the next paragraph. A "path" is a set of points that are linked; the points in that path can be used in different combinations to create different shapes. Imagine a circle (4 control points) - now join two of those points across the inside of the circle with a line that has one point in the middle of it. You now have 5 points and the opportunity to create at least 3 different shapes: one shape for the outer 4, one for each of the two "halves" of the circle. What the final render looks like will depend on the order in which those shapes are created and stacked. (of course, if you use the same fill/stroke conbinbation you'll not really notice a difference.) You can delete a shape without deleting the points. See chapter 4 of the (ASP) manual for more.
you'll find that many people prefer not to use paint bucket or autofill; instead they control shape creation and stroke/fill by manually selecting points and creating a shape (shortcut key U). The advantage of this is that it avoids problems as you might otherwise create many shapes, each using (mostly) the same points, stacked on top of each other - and this can lead to unexpected results in render. IMO, when working with simple shapes, the auto-create / fill / stroke options are perfectly OK - it's when you get on to more complex shapes that manual control is not only desirable but essential.

Re: Add tool paint bucket how
To be perfectly honest, I have never been able to use the paint bucket tool effectively. This is not a failure of the tool itself! I can't even come up with a "fix" or idea of how to improve it really. I looked at the code.
It works properly in the majority of simple situations, but it is after all an "automated" best guess type of programmed tool that can't possibly account for the unlimited variations of how vectors connect and intersect. The tool creates shapes using straight forward common sense rules, based on where it's clicked and how the points are arranged and connected.
(However, it isn't SkyNet. This isn't sophisticated artificial intelligence. I wonder if a T800 could properly create a shape in Anime Studio? That could be why they always fail their missions.
)
If vector shapes are relatively simple and obvious, then this tool works great. If however, like me
, you tend to create really unusual or complicated shapes (or you are a beginner and make mistakes, funny how those extremes are very similar), the paint bucket tool just isn't going to work as well as selecting the points and creating the shapes manually.
I have a "trick" I've been using for a long time now, of creating crossing, overlapped, connected shapes that slide and shift to cover and reveal other shapes. There is no way an automated tool could figure out what I need. I couldn't expect the paint bucket tool to "know" what I want, it's hard enough figuring out on my own which points to select for these bizarre shapes.
