Looks good. Is the highlight supposed to move too? It stays in once place, usually it would animate with the iris. Just wondering.

I, personally, don't understand why people animate the highlights. I think it's more realistic and better-looking if left in one place. But that's only my opinion.Danimal wrote:Looks good. I like it. Good rig.

Here's a good article on eye specular highlights:

I think it looks great.
I disagree with the above comment about the specular highlight in the eyes.
In my opinion in reality it should remain static as the eyes move, as it's the eyes which are moving, not the light source.
Not that it should necessarily look realistic, as it's not reality it's a cartoon, but that it lends to the believability if the highlight is still as the eyes move. Otherwise it would just look like it was painted onto the iris. Which of course may be what some people want. I guess that it's a question of style, and I like your style.
I also like the little detail of having the eyes move slightly downwards on the blink.
I really like the thought you put into it and what you've done.

That was quite an eye-openersynthsin75 wrote:Here's a good article on eye specular highlights:

I never considered animating the highlights, because, like Bossco said, it would look as though the highlight had been painted onto the iris. Perhaps in a less-detailed 2D animation, a static highlight would be more acceptable than in a detailed 3D animation.

Physics disagrees with this. You should read the article linked above.Bossco wrote:In my opinion in reality it should remain static as the eyes move, as it's the eyes which are moving, not the light source.

Re: Animation Test of eye movement...
If your eyes are perfect spheres (without the bulge around the iris), then yes, the highlight would stay put. And for 2D animation, it is mainly a stylistic choice. Perhaps you are going for more of a doll/marble eye look, but overall 2D is about breaking the rules.
But for a more realistic approach, the highlight on the cornea is accurate.

Re: Animation Test of eye movement...
Well, thanks everyone.
I think there happens a little movement of highlights along with iris.I didn't do it on my test.
But here is another test with some movement of highlights.

Thanks Bossco. I really appreciate your observation on the few details i made for the eye movements. Really glad you noticed that.Bossco wrote:I think it looks great.

Re: Animation Test of eye movement...
Yes that does look much better.
Rather than remaining static, and rather than staying stuck on to the iris and moving relative to the iris, it just moves around across the cornea which looks accurate and much more convincing.
