Reparent in the middle of an animation (or alternatives)

Post by Kristian »

I started with Moho yesterday, and I've made this small animation, just for fun: http://www.home.no/saturos/lightsaber.mov
Now I wonder, how can I make the bone that is bound to the lightsaber, first have the hip as parent, and then the hand when it comes to that. Or an alternative to that.

Simply use switches or invisible clones.

"Switches" I don't understand. But invisible clones, that is to have one object in one layer which is bound to the hip, and one identic object in another layer bound to the hand?

Okay. I will discribe the method of using "invisible clones".
how can I make the bone that is bound to the lightsaber, first have the hip as parent, and then the hand when it comes to that. Or an alternative to that.
To do this, you must set up TWO different bone setups, cause AFAIK there is no possibility to change the relation between bones in the animation.
You will need one bone setup with the hip as parent and another one with the hand as parent.

So now you should have at least 2 bone setups.

Turn the second bone setup invisible in the timeline.
When you need the bones to change simply turn the first bone setup invisible and turn the other one visible.

And now the same with "switches":
Alternatively you can make use of a simple switch layer, in which you put in the two bone setups and then you can simply right-click on the switch and switch between the two similar bone setups at any frame, how much you like, and it is not that exhausting like the method with invisible clones.

If you still dont come along with my explanations i can make you a demo file.

I understand now. I've even made one with the invisible clone-thingy already. Thank you for your help. :)
