turn the head of a sheep with horns

Post by elcomportal »

Hi,
I've painted a sheep. With big horns. Now i want to animate this sheep. I have a picture with the sheep looks to mee. I will make a picture with the sheep look to the left site. How to make an animation where the sheep turns the head from the site to me? I use anime studio 9.5. Is there a possibility to let this program make the pictures between the 2 pictures i have? If i switch between the two pictures it's going to fast, i want to have a slow flowing move.
Here is the picture of the sheep:

I have painted the head in anime studio so i can insert bones. But now... ??? :?:
Thanks for your help.

You need a very good 3D imagination to do something like this convincingly. Or you use some tricks ...

Do a drawing of the sheep's head seen from above, on paper. Put that paper on the table and turn it. Put a second sheet on the table, under the first, and sketch the positions of nose, horn tips, and so on, for each frame of the turn. You shouldn't have more than 3 inbetweens anyway.
http://www.slowtiger.de/examples/turntest.mov gives you an idea how to construct this.

There is no automatic way to rotate a head, but making it is easy enough by moving the points and having a front and side drawings as reference.
You must separate the head parts in different layers. Specially the horns (1 layer each).
Then you can use a smart bone to animate the head rotation. You can animate the layer order (if you activate it in the bone layer Depth sort tab), so the horns can pass from front to back.
I can't make a detailed tutorial here, but if you search "head turn" in the forum you will find a lot of threads. Just learn to use smart bones as levers and you will have the first half of the road done.

PD: Oh, crossed posts, sorry Slowtiger.

Someone posted this nice example from deviantart in the TVP forum. See how the artist first indicated body part positions on a circle.
