Chicken Monster Rests!
Here is my first real animation with Anime Studio pro 9.5. Everything up until now has been tutorials and tests.

I don't have the first clue what's supposed to be going on here, but I do know that you don't generally credit every single sound effects source. You can probably do something more like "Sound Effects from" and one overarching credit. Just a thought.

Re: Chicken Monster Rests!
Chicken Monster is a monster chicken who gets mad when people have chicken. That,s why he slapped the lunch box at him. That's the whole plot of the "series" are the different ways he attacks others who has chicken. It's probably the worst plot ever posted here.Danimal wrote:I don't have the first clue what's supposed to be going on here, but I do know that you don't generally credit every single sound effects source. ...Anyway Your right. I didn't. The ones i didn't credit were the ones I made, and the punching sound effects. I had no idea where they came from since I had them for a long time. I didn't have a way to find out either because the files themselves didn't have a link on them.

Re: Chicken Monster Rests!
When I watched it, I didn't get it either. To be brutally honest, I thought the chicken was a racist and attacked the dude due to intolerance? Might just be me and my corrupted brain. Anyways, that was supposed to be chicken behind that guy he threw the box at? I thought it was a ping pong paddle. I'd recommend clarifying it as chicken. You'd also want to provide some evidence that he's pissed off about people eating chicken as well. Him acting without a prior implication of his pet peeve makes his actions appear random and unprovoked.eric1223 wrote:Chicken Monster is a monster chicken who gets mad when people have chicken. The head turning was pretty solid and the rigging was pretty excellent and the atmosphere of the park was well done. The movements of Mister Chicken were nicely collaborated and you really captured the 3D perspective of him pretty well. All and all, I'd say that the artistic and animation quality aspect is pretty well done, you just need to clarify your execution and story telling.

I thought the same thing and was especially thrown because the guy didn't have the ping pong paddle when he first walked up. And do people carry chicken in their back pocket? I mean, I know I do, but I thought it was somewhat frown on.sargumphigaus wrote:I thought it was a ping pong paddle.
I would direct you to watch Scabie Babies and see if you still think that.eric1223 wrote:It's probably the worst plot ever posted here.

Now in defense of Scab babies good name, he DID bring us all together as a community when he proceeded to act like a lunatic.Danimal wrote:I would direct you to watch Scabie Babies and see if you still think that.

Haha, I enjoy this whole exchange. (Not that I wish the forum was more like facebook or anything, but sometimes I wish there was just a "like" button for comments here, so I could just express my like for something without feeling the need to weigh in on the subject. Maybe there is? I'm newish here.)Danimal wrote:I thought the same thing and was especially thrown because the guy didn't have the ping pong paddle when he first walked up. But anyway, since I'm here I may as well weigh in on Chicken Monster. I guess I would say that this is growing on me a little bit. (into what I'm not sure

Noting that, I also agree that it's not the worst plot ever, even if "plot" isn't what I would call it per se. Plenty of stupid or silly concepts can work with right treatment, and can wind up being quite funny. The larger failing here is the execution. Like others, I couldn't tell enough of what was happening to really know whether it was good or bad. (Which, then just defaults to "bad")
I'm going to start with a couple things I do like: I like the exclamation point in the title. "Rests!" is just kinda funny to me.
And i think the background characters playing at the beginning are done well. Simple. But I can tell exactly what they are doing.
But then a guy falls out of the sky, and so begins a list of things I don't understand:
-Falling guy. Why does this happen? Maybe just something goofy to grab attention. Even so, the shadow below him starts quite large and gets smaller as he approaches the ground. Direct light may cause this effect, but outdoor sunlight is diffused much more around a small object resulting in a small shadow or no shadow at all until very close.
-I know he's a chicken and some kind of monster at that, what's with his shape? Is he supposed to be in the shape of a "C"? Ok. I can dig it.
-Thought bubble. CM is recalling something. Flying or flailing and then notices himself hammering on something? What does this mean?
-Pouring beer into a spoon...ok. But how or why would the beer ignite and explode?
-The pingpong paddle chicken leg. This is the closest to explaining why CM gets angry and violent, but it occurs at the very end, so even if I could tell what that was I don't know that I would have pieced it back together with all of the things I had just seen.
Anyway, don't really mean to get on a rant and tear this apart. Obviously it's meant to be goofy and quirky. But I think for the positives to shine through, the story telling has to become much clearer. Otherwise it just seems to be a cluster of random events regardless of certain moments of effective technique.

lol ping pong paddle. Now looking back at it, it does look like one instead of a oversize chicken leg.ddrake wrote:Haha, I enjoy this whole exchange. But anyway, since I'm here I may as well weigh in on Chicken Monster. I guess I would say that this is growing on me a little bit. (into what I'm not sure) Maybe simply because of the "worst plot ever" comment. Self awareness is pretty important, as well as the ability to poke some fun at yourself.

Maybe I can shed some light on some of whats going on =). First you MUST know I have a really weird sense of humor.
-The scientist falling out of the tree is random. Why I did this is just for the humor of it. Maybe hes studying leaves

-Yes his body is shaped like a "C". I thought of this thing when I as a child lol.
-The thought bubble thing was him flying and knocking a hole in a building. He repaired it, and decided to go to the park and rest. I realllly should have spent more time on the story boarding for this part, but I messed up here. This was supposed to explain why he was there. At least now I know what to do. =)
-the pouring beer into the spoon was supposed to be humor. I wanted to make you think that he was going to drink it from the can by pouring it into his mouth, but then he pulls up a spoon. Did anyone notice that the beer defys gravity/physics? He opens the can before he raises it upside down, but the beer only comes out once the spoon is raised. Plus all of it falls into the spoon instead of spilling over. Lol it wouldn't explode. That's just me taking realism out of things to be funny. I made CM fly on the first episode.
I'm glad you watch this =) and thanks for the reviews. I'm pretty sure I will get better with this.

instead of showing the back story in the form of a thought bubble, why not just animate it taking place as a different scene all together? I mean, you did already animate it, all you'd have to do is just make it bigger. You could even use that as an opportunity to establish his distaste towards people's tendency to eat chicken, and then move onto him sitting at the park drinking dynamite beer out of spoons. As it is right now, the though bubble is just confusing and without context. There isn't any implication that he's thinking past tense and it just confuses the viewer.
