Getting actual sharp edges on a line corner

So even with the rounded caps option off, there is still some "rounding" that happens when trying to do a shape with very thick lines. Is there a way to fix this so that my squares corners below actually are pointy sharp corners on the outer edges instead of what's happening here:

You're right, that's annoying.

Here's a workaround which uses one additional point per corner:

Add point, make it pointy (cmd-P), drag to side.
