Applying Linear Gradient and Creating Sub Layers

Hey guys I am new around here. I have been trying to apply linear gradient to shapes but none of the steps I know are working for me, also I am having difficulties creating sub layers. I need your help guys!!!!!
By the way I'm using Anime Pro Studio 10

To create a gradient just select the shape with the Select shape tool (shorcut Q)

Go to Style>Effect>Gradient... and that's pretty much it.

About the layers, you can create a group or bone layer, and drag and drop the layers inside.

hey thanks for the concern, but I try using the select shape, the fill bucket, and the create shape but none of those steps are working for me.
I'm using a trial version don't know if that count.

Well I didn't even know there was a trial version

But that's probably it, perhaps not all the features are unlocked in the trial version.
