HELP!! I can't bind a layer to a bone if its in a group.

Post by sneedledout »

Hey guys. Any help would be appreciated. Ive been looking everywhere online and haven't seen any solutions. For some reason, when I put a layer into ANY type of group folder, I immediately lose the ability to bind that layer to a bone outside of the group. There isn't even a "Bone" tool section on the left when I click on the layer. I've tried binding to bones BEFORE putting it in the group folder and it erases the bind when it is in the folder. I've tried converting the group layer to a bone group and it allows me to add new bones only for the group layer, but then I have no way of actually binding the whole group layer to a previous bone because the previous main bones turn pink and unresponsive to the group layer. So for instance, I made a masking layer with the eyes, eyelids, and pupils --- and it only lets me bind those to bones made within that masking/bone layer, but it in the end I can't bind it all to the head layer because it won't let me. HERES THE THING THAT IS TOTALLY CONFUSING ME: This is my second character that I've made. My first one went smoothly and I had no problems. What is different about my second character? I keep going back to see if I did anything different on the first character, and the layers that are in groups are able to bind to ANY bone. What am I doing wrong? Its almost as if there's a glitch in my 2nd character and I just need to start over... but Ive spent several hours on it. Please help!! thanks.

OK, here is a workaround I would try. A group layer is just a bone layer in disguise, so I would substitute group layers with bone layers. Try it out with something simple first...
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Make sure "Allow nested layer control" is enabled in the bone tab of the bone layer settings. You can have bone layers between the control layer and the bound layer, but any bone existing in those layers will interrupt bone influence from your upper bone layer.

jahnocli, I have tried that. It works with binding bones within that layer but I can't bind the whole layer group to a bone outside the group though. I did that with pupils, eyelids, and eyes in a bone group... but since the group layer cannot bind to anything outside the group, when I move the head the eyes etc. don't move with it. I'll try what the other guy is saying real quick.
