Mask not working once rendered?

Post by Hopper200456 »

So I'm having trouble with masks in Anime Studio 9.

I've got my character, Snake, in a box. The box is a "3D" object that I built within AS. It's a just a group layer, with each side of the box being a separate layer.
So I have the character hiding in the box, then throwing it off revealing himself. I tried to make this all in 3D space, so that the box accurately covered what should be covered and showed what should be shown. However, I had problems with this and found just using a simple mask to cover Snake to be easier and gave me more control.

Everything is fine and dandy, the mask covers Snake while he's in the box, and as he's throwing it off it reveals him as a box would work. But when I render the frame, it shows as if the mask isn't there, not covering him at all. Here's a picture, that would hopefully better show the problem.

Here's the image.
(Don't mind the hidden layers. I tried deleting them and it didn't fix the problem.)

So yeah I have no idea what to do. His eye is also a mask, (within his bone layer) if that helps at all. I have tried just exporting it as is and it was the same problem as just rendering the one frame.
I'm using Anime Studio Pro 9 (NOT 9.5) on windows, if that matters.

Thanks for the help!

Is the body layer set to mask this layer? If so, I'd have to see the file to sort it out. Not enough info.

Yes it is, I've tried other options but it just messes everything else up.

I'm not really sure what other info I should give, I have no idea what the problem is so I'm not sure what to say.
I have so much going on that I can't really mess with one thing without it changing EVERYTHING.

Is it because I touched the sequencer? I used it to better sync up part of the animation and now everything is screwed up.
I think at this point it's going to be easier and faster to just export a version with the box, then a separate version with just snake. Then I'll throw it into another program
and mask it through there. Painful, but I've been working on this for nearly 3 months and really don't want to screw it up any further.

No, the sequencer will not effect masking. If you want, PM me a link to the file and I'm sure I'll be able to solve it.

Will do, if you can fix it that'd be amazing.

Just looked at the file. Easy fix. You have the body layer masking set to add to mask. This setting overrides the mask layer subtraction. So the body layer should be set to mask this layer.

Thank you so much, again.
I feel like I should have you review all my work. ;P

Glad I could help. It's easy to miss stuff the more complicated a project becomes. Happens to everyone.
