Bone Rotation?

Post by Hans Rickheit »

I'm new to this program and am encountering problems that are probably easily fixed.

I don't know if I have the proper vocabulary to describe my specific problem. I can't seem to get a bone to rotate when I use the Manipulate Bone tool. It's the "butt" bone for the character I'm designing. It's also the "parent" bone at the top of the bone hierarchy. When I do try to move the bone, it simply moves the entire skeleton without any pivoting at all.... Instead od making the character bend forward or backward, the entire group of layers moves about the screen in a static pose.

Is there some vital step I'm missing?

That behavior is by design, as the root bone of a character is usually used to translate the character. Use the transform bone tool or hold Alt on the manipulate bone tool to rotate root bones.

I should have sussed that one out. It seems the best solution was to make a new tiny "Parent" Bone, so I can get that Pelvic/butt bone to pivot as needed. Thank you so much for your speedy help!

Also, there is always info in the status bar for the tool you have selected. There you can see what keys you can use to modify the tool behavior.
