Cutting a hole in a raster image?

Post by uncle808us »

How would I go about cutting a hole in an imported jpg or png image? Can it be done somehow like you cut a hole in a shape? Thanks.

You can do it with a mask.

You will have to use masking to do this or us a photo editor and erase the hole and save as png and import that to AS.

The masking will be real easy for this. Create a group and put the image in it an a vector layer. Set the group to hide all. Set the vector layer to "add to mask but keep invisible. " Now create a square shape that covers the entire canvas with a circle inside. The circle should not be filled.
Sorry for bad animation

If you have problems with masking, try asking here for help. As Sbtamu described, create this kind of masking is very easy and shouldn't be any visualization problem.
Anyway, here is an alternative way to do a hole on an image:
- Create a rectangle with no fill or stroke. Now, inside it, create a circle with no fill/stroke.
- Select the points of both and create a fill from them.
- Select the created shape and go to Style window - Effect - Image texture
- Select the image you want and press ok
- Now move the texture handle until you get the desired image size
- You can move the points for more exact result

PD: I haven't tested this specifically, but it should work.

I did the masking and it worked (rendered) OK. I followed this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjdB0AiVTac
Thanks Víctor Paredes I will try your way as well and report back.
@sbtamu: Thank you too this may be what I want to do at least another alternative.
Thanks all.

I think the way with the best control is going to be the masking. I just have to get a grip on using masks.
Thanks again everyone.
