Export Garageband file

Post by gbrad »

When I save sounds created in Garageband it does not give me any file type options so when I go to import audio files in ASP the file is greyed out. Can anyone help please.

You should be able to export from Garageband to AIF or WAV or MP3.

I don't use Garage Band but, based on a quick search, it apparently only saves variants of aiff. aiff is a fairly universal format though, so if it doesn't work in ASP for you, you can convert the file to a compatible format using iTunes or a dedicated audio editing or audio conversion program. See the ASP manual for a list of formats.

As for other sound programs to do the conversion, there should be a number of free or open source programs available online. I'm not sure what's available for Mac these days but a quick Google search should turn up some good recommendations.

FYI, for final audio, I typically export uncompressed .wav from my music editing program and .aif would be more common on Mac. But regardless of format, for ASP, I like use a lower bit quality for imported audio so it doesn't hog system resources while animating. That's assuming you're only using the ASP audio as a temp track for syncing dialog or action. I only use the uncompressed version when outputting the final video file from my editing program.

Naturally, if you're outputting your final video directly from ASP, then you'll want to replace the audio track with the final uncompressed version before exporting.

Get audacity (free), convert AIF to WAV if necessary.

But if you have Garageband, you have a Mac, and the Mac version of AS works with AIF flawlessly.
