Layer from one character to another to be used as a matte

Post by ernpchan »

In our Harmony rigs we have to do a lot of matte work where we pipe the artwork layers from a character to be used as mattes for other characters. How would one do this in ASP? In ASP all the masking is handled within a group that lives within the character. So how would I pipe the layer from another character to be used as a matte to another character?

Masking. Put both characters into another layer (group), switch on masking, one is the mask, the other gets masked.

you also have the option of making a copy by reference and then using colorize layer

Thanks slowtiger.

It sounds like this is a complete hold out of one character over the other. What I'm trying to do is create masks from specific parts of a character. So for example, I'll have CharA rigged in a bone group and CharB in it's own bone group. Can I get just the hand layer from CharA to mask out CharB?

I'm guessing if I reference CharA and then just disable the parts I don't need to mask about CharB that would work?
