Unmerging shapes

Post by Greenlaw »

Hi,

Anybody know how to quickly unmerge a group of strokes in a vector layer? I drew the strokes in Merge Strokes mode by mistake. The strokes are actually disconnected so it seems like I should be able to do this.

Thanks for any info.

Not aside from writing a script.

Hmm...I was afraid of that. Thanks for the info though.

In this particular case it's not a huge deal because there are only about a dozen strokes and I can cut and paste them individually but I can foresee a worse scenario with many dozen's of merged strokes. In that case, having an Unmerge command could be very useful.

would it not work to delete the merged fill, then just click each line with the paint bucket? dunno, just spit-balling here :)

So only the fill is actually merged? I didn't realize that. I had assumed everything drawn was treated as a single selectable shape. All I was really looking for was the ability to individually click-select each stroke and move it like you can with a normally unmerged drawing but the merged state kept selecting the entire drawing.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot today. It's not really the quick 'unmerge' solution I was asking about but it should be a little quicker than individually lassoing, cutting and pasting strokes like I wound up doing yesterday.

Oh, wait...I just realized that what I wrote yesterday was not entirely accurate. It turns out that in this case, I was drawing with the Blob Brush, not the Freehand tool.

With Merge Strokes enabled, disconnected Freehand strokes remain individually selectable but disconnnected Blob Brush blobs are not individually selectable unless you individually cut and paste them.

So what I'm actually looking for an easy way to un-merge the disconnected 'blobs'. I'm guessing there's no easy way to do this though.

No biggie, I was just wondering. Now that I'm aware of this, I'll just try to be more careful about the Merge Strokes option when using the Blob Brush.
