Importing .psd files...

Post by DrawMonkey »

Hey everybody.

I did a quick search on the forum and couldn't find the answer so I apologize if it's there somewhere and I'm just repeating something.

I'm trying to import into Anime Studio 11 a .psd file done in Manga Studio 5 and I'm getting layers and folders like in the original file but all the layers are filled with a broken image. The symbol looks like a square with shapes on it and a tear on the corner.

I've tried using Photoshop Elements to re-save it and that didn't work. I imported a smaller, less complex file and it still did it. I've also played with colour profiles and although I don't think I've exhausted that side I still haven't found the answer.

Importing .png files is working fine but it would be very helpful to be able to bring in the .psd file that's already nicely organized and such.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks in advance folks.

Is Anime supposed to be able to open a .psd file with layers and folders? Cause I just loaded a file with only one layer, one drawing and it worked. Is that the problem?

Just saw a video that shows that it's possible.

I just tried importing a layered .psd file created in Manga Studio 5 into Anime Studio Pro 11 and it worked just fine. It would seem that you followed the correct procedure in that you were able to get your individual layers imported, but to my knowledge, what the broken image icon usually means is that the path to the image file is broken.

This typically happens if you move the image files after creating your new project file, in which case ASP no longer knows where to find them. I'm not saying this is what's happening in your case, but I've experienced this before when creating projects in programs like ASP and After Effects and later moving the image files into another folder for organizational purposes. After doing that the layers will show a "broken image" icon and ask to be shown the path to the image. Once I show where the new location is the image is loaded properly.

SOOOOO... after fiddling with it with the IT guy here at the studio for all morning we figured it out.

Ends up it's because the root directory for the project on my computer had stars ( * ) ( I use them to bring up the projects that are being worked on above the others in the Finder ). Anime doesn't like any of those fancy symbols even if it's a folder that doesn't really pertain to what you're doing. All the assets were far into the project folder, contained within their own folders and it was still affected.

So there it is. Silly problems cause by sillier things.

Thanks for all the advice folks.

Use an underscore instead of a star, that should work.
