Cloth Behavior

Post by mystd »

I have the following problem:

I bind the points to the upper legbone and it looks like this:

I unbind the points from the bone and it looks like this:

Is it possible to automate the process of the shirt being pushed the right way or is it only possible to manually adjust the points like this:

You can set up a Smart Bone Action with the leg bone that includes the points of the shirt. Smart bones can control points on other layers, even if those points are originally bound to other bones.

Nice thx!

I've also found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JujCP2aTPw0

I've only seen the smart bones with the dial bones before, this is a much better use ^-^

I'm kinda having problems with the smartbones:

I should manipulate the bone now but it's grayed out.

This one explains it better:

Had to use transform not manipulate.

Yes. I hardly ever use the Manipulate Bones tool anymore (except to check out binding on frame zero)

Transform Bone tool and the Manipulate Bones tool work quite a bit differently. With Transform Bone you can set keyframes for a single bone without affecting the other bones in it's chain. While Manipulate Bones will set a keyframe for the other bones in the chain as well. A good way to remember this is the name of the tools. Manipulate Bones is plural while Transform Bone is singular.

I thought transform bone was for changing the bones attributes like its size.

Think of it like the Swiss Army tool. It's taken the place of 3 tools from earlier versions of AS. We used to have to hop back and forth if you wanted to scale, translate or rotate.

Transform Bone is actually my primary animation tool--it's used to position, rotate and stretch a character's bones during animation. It's good when you don't desire to manipulate the IK and you want to switch between the three modes quickly for specific bones.

I use the Manipulate Tool regularly too but in a different way from Transform. Manipulate is mainly used to re-pose the rig using the IK system--you can't do that with Tranform. But you can't independently reposition or stretch bones that are part of an IK chain with Manipulate either, which is sometimes necessary during animation. It's useful to know you can override the IK with Manipulate by holding down the control key--this allows you to independently rotate any bone in the chain--like, for example, to pose the hand bone without affecting the rest of the arm.

Manipulate can also be used to re-position unconnected bones, like target bones, but it can't repostion connected bones--for example, like pupil bones in a face setup. For that, you want to use the Transform Bone tool.

In short, you should become familiar with the capabilities of both tools to make the most of bones animation in ASP.
