Entry fee is pretty standard Wes, it keeps people from just entering any old thing.synthsin75 wrote: IMO, paying to compete is BS.

Oh, if I had a commercial work I was looking to promote, it would just be an insignificant part of the ad budget. I just think entry fees should be stated up front, so amateurs don't have to dig for it. But for not-for-profit work, I'd never pay to compete.chucky wrote:Entry fee is pretty standard Wes, it keeps people from just entering any old thing.synthsin75 wrote: IMO, paying to compete is BS.

So a buddy of mine made a short animation , entered into various festivals, got short listed for an academy award and now directs Hollywood films.
There are other people I know who have had similar experiences.
That's what the circuit is for, a way to get your films to people who you think might enjoy it and an investment into the filmmaker's future.

Re: CALL FOR ENTRIES - Other Worlds Austin SciFi Film Festiv
I have enter some of my "stuff" into film fests and I have pity on the screeners. Next week I'm going to the Woodstock Film Fest. I entered a long time ago with a kid friendly animation. I got a reply, 'It made us smile' but was not good enough for the fest. I entered into the wrong film fest. Most of Woodstock is adult animation, not for little kids. So know your venue or audience before wasting your time and money.
