Phantom particles

Post by Jkoseattle »

This is my first attempt at using particles. I'm trying to create a flame. I like how it's looking, and I even sort of understand most of the Particle options, but I'm seeing strange upside-down phantom particles and some particles flying around, and I'm not sure what to change to make all that go away.

In the GIF linked here, you can see my flame on the left side, which I'm pretty happy with. But you can also see the upside down phantom flame on the upper right, and a few particles zooming around between them. I'm also displaying the particle dialog settings.

I am getting the flame shape to shrink and change color by setting layer translation and color keyframes half a second in on the vector layer itself. I don't understand why that works, but I saw it in a video and it works. I also shrank and moved the vector layer at frame 0 after creating it, in case that has anything to do with it.

Help!
Most of the time I'm doing music stuff. Check me out at http://www.jimofseattle.com/music.

Your particle and art layer origins (the cross in the middle) should generally be aligned with where you want the effect. Particles are spawned from the layer's origin.
