get a smooth curve rig

I am trying to smooth chest curve but when ever rig the character it overlap or it bend too much! is there is something to take in mind when trying to do a smooth bending curve of a chest?!

I prefers to not use the Smart bone unless it is extremely needed! What I was looking for is a simple rig technique in which I should consider to achieve as smooth curve as possible without smart bone!

Instead of using a bone, just pull the handles out and the bends will be smooth curve.
