Can't figure what this layer type is

Post by GregO619 »

I keep seeing layers in other's projects that have what looks like a staircase going up to a bone or vector layer.
What type of layer is this and what does it mean?
I've searched the manuals and tried looking online, but either I missed it or couldn't find it.
Is this something awesome that will unlock vast possibilities?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
_greg

Do you mean these:

On the bone layer, this means animated layer sorting is enabled, and on the vector layer, it means animated shape sorting is enabled.

Yes, exactly.
Amazing how such a little thing took me out of my focus.
Currently just building characters and assets and haven't needed to animate the layers yet.
But this helps me out a lot.
Thanks!!

Those icons puzzled me at first too.

Yeah, I remember being puzzled too. But I'm really glad we have that feature. Now it's a lot easier to find where those animated order key frames are hiding. :)

I'm happy you like it. We tried to put as many visual keys as possible for 11.2 and 12 (mask icons, point binding colors, etc). I'm sorry about this layer/shape order icon to not being clear enough. I was in charge of "designing" it and it was hard for me to make a good use of that few pixels. We actually tried several icons before that one :)

Once you know what it is, it conveys the idea just fine, Victor.

Yes, I think the icon is fine too. No need to change it, Victor.

At first, I though it was 'steps' but once I understood what the symbol indicated, I realized it represented 'shuffling', like cards. It's a tricky concept to illustrate in tiny form but I think this image works.

FYI, I'm sure it's shown somewhere in the manual but, like Greg, I had trouble finding it. I don't think I looked very hard though. That or I was too busy...or too lazy. :P

On the topic, is there a symbol reference chart for the software?
