Paintbucket creates new path??

I'm trying to fill a path but apparently the create shape doesn't want to fill (even though I'm selected the right points and my shape is closed properly). So I resort to use the paint bucket. But it creates a whole new path, with many more points, which I certainly don't want. Is that normal behavior?

yes - that's what paint bucket will do in this situation. Was the "path that won't fill" created by freehand? If so, check that for weird loops - you can get two points joined by two separate segments with the two points more or less at the same physical location so it's not evident what's going on… Another "won't fill" situation can be where you've added / deleted points in the closed path in a "weird" way and moho thinks it's not actually closed - take a look for "odd" curvatures at each point - a remedy is to delete a point that moho thinks is an "end point" then relink the path.
