Strange Animated Shadow behaviour

Hi!
Somehow in one of my files the animated shadow is affected by the edge of the frame. (see image https://ibb.co/yPmbnL0)
I never encountered this issue before! Disabling and re-enabling the shadow wont change anything.

What can i do?

I'm not able to replicate the problem in v12.5. What version are you using and what specific shading settings?

I am using moho 12.5.1 for mac.

The settings for the shadow are nothing unusual:
Offset 140
Blur 0
Direction 234.46

Other than that its a standard vector layer - i didn't change any other layer settings.
Im also not able to recreate the problem in any other file. Maybe its just a random bug?

I doubt it's a random bug, but I'd have to see the file to know for sure, since I can't reproduce the problem. If you don't want to share it publicly, you could always PM someone a link to the file to check it out for you.

do you have multiple shapes? do any of them have drop shadow on their fill?

or maybe multiple vector layers?

and how far out of frame does the "cloak" go?

I was thinking along those lines too. The shadow effect is based on the shape of the object, so if the drawing cut off like that at the bottom, the shadow offset can look like that. Adjusting the shadow angle might help hide it, but extending the artwork so you don't get that edge in-camera would be better.

More tips:

If the shading is being applied at the layer or group level, you can just insert a rectangle in the layer behind the art and past the frame edge. The extended area should 'pull down' the shading edge.

However, if it's being applied as a Style in the shape, you'll need to modify the shape itself.

The cloak goes far beyond the frame and the shadow is only applied to the single vector layers and none to a group.

Seems to be an artifact if rendering a movie or image sequence at around 4K resolution. 1080p doesn't have this problem. The easiest solution, without a fix from the devs, would probably be rendering a bit bigger and cropping to your desired dimensions.

Ew, that's weird. It almost sounds like the shape's alpha is being cropped to the camera view before the shading effect is applied.

I guess another approach would be to draw the shadow in the layer instead of relying on the shading effect.

yeah -- seems to be a buffer size issue -- I tried renders at various dimensions and it broke somewhere around the total of 5M pixels (independent of aspect ratio I think) rendering to png or jpg

If you decide to crop the render, you could use View>Video Safe Zones to get a rough idea of where to frame the animation.
